Why Quality Features Always Trump a Crush of Features

January 26, 2011

Nobody likes buggy features.

If you’re knee-deep in the product development process and can’t realize this, you’re in trouble. Most likely, you’ll be preparing to roll out a buggy piece of software that hasn’t been tuned for the customer in no time. And the net result is still going to be a dissatisfied customer. And that will quickly take away your business’s growth potential.

Think of it this way: Would you rather eat one delicious piece of candy or two mediocre ones? Most people would choose the former option. And while this isn’t a direct translation in terms of software features, if you’re talking from a company strategy perspective, it’s always best to put your best foot forward. There are scenarios that contradict this line of thinking, but you’ll find it to be true most of the time.

Having well-developed features is also a great way to reduce the amount of time and money you will be sinking into customer support. For more on this topic, watch the full video from OpenView Labs featuring Brad Feld.
