Readying for a Board Meeting the Mark Zuckerberg Way

March 23, 2011

Companies that have a board, by default, must have meetings.

And most of the meeting are probably stuffy, perfunctory and very routine. None of these qualities are conducive to the sort of high-productivity you would want to see out of such a brain trust.

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook, has taken a different approach to these meetings. In the early years of his social media monolith (then a smaller version of its current self), his board meetings were a bit less formal and centered around him updating the board from a yellow piece of paper on the happenings. Now with legal considerations to make and operational management issues, the meetings have become more formal.

Still, there is plenty to be learned from Facebook’s initial company strategy. Formality, while important, may lead to less productivity at times. For more on conducting board meetings like Zuckerberg, follow the link to see the video.
