Leadership and Motivation with Dr. Patrick Dixon

November 7, 2010

Dr. Pat Dixon is a pioneer in motivational thought leadership.

He has years of experience motivating the apathetic and getting underachievers to perform. In a 2008 speech, Dr. Dixon summarized some of his findings over the years. He talks about knowing how to lead with compassion, among other things.

People follow others because there is trust involved, he explains. They believe in the direction that the leader is taking them and want to follow. This bond breeds engagement. But there are ways to disengage your employees; leading by fear and intimidation, for example. True leadership makes your employees feel comfortable and open. This way to lead is not only sustainable, but it’s better for everyone’s psyche and production.

If you’ve figured out how to engage your employees in every capacity, they will believe in you, without fail. They will trust you and do your bidding. And that is the goal of every professional with employees under their wing.
