Is Your Company Socially Responsible?

December 2, 2011

In a post this week on the OpenView Blog site, Market Research Analyst Brandon Hickie shines a light on the concept of “corporate social responsibility” — and wonders how many companies are really as socially responsible as they think.

Socially Responsible

Corporate social responsibility is a big buzzword in business today with lots of companies claiming that they are great community citizens,” he writes. “However, the reality is that few really go the extra mile to give back to their communities.”

What a lot of companies don’t realize, however, is that the failures of a company to be community-minded can actually have a negative effect on employee productivity and retention. “Happier people are more productive, and being proud of the company you work for and what you do goes a long way in making an employee happier,” Brandon explains.

He adds that some companies might not realize the different ways they can become more involved in their respective communities. For example, the OpenView team has participated in events like Boston’s Tech Gives Back, and Brandon himself even helped raise money for cancer research this past “Movember” (and what better reason to grow a mustache then for such a great cause?).

It’s never too late for a company to become better community citizens. Check out Brandon’s full post at the OpenView Blog site for more on corporate social responsibility.
