Great resources for any profession – social networks
March 24, 2010
With the ubiquity of social media sites like Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter, the idea of creating your own profile, disclosing some facts about oneself and connecting (friend) with other people in a social network becomes natural. Very soon, I think people will expect most websites to have some form of social networking capability, and social networks will dominate the Internet as sites for content creation, multi-channel interaction and media publishing. We are already seeing the rise of niche social networks that serve the more specialized needs of professionals or experts.
That said, I just wanted to highlight a couple of really cool social networks that are serving particular professions that are relevant to my work as part of the operational support team providing strategic consulting services at OpenView Venture Partners.
They are:
Isalesman – a new but growing social network for sales people. There are some really good articles and discussion on this site that are really pertinent to our sales practice development, such as the following article on Sales Productivity.
Sprouter – a social network for entrepreneurs with cool twitter-like features, such as this ongoing discussion around Entrepreneurship.
AMABoston – a social network (hosted by Ning) for members of the AMA chapter in Boston. My colleague Amanda Maksymiw is an active member, contributing to discussion on many marketing topics.
