7 Quick Tips to Optimize Your LinkedIn Company Page
July 31, 2013
We’ve all heard about the greatness, the importance, and the need for LinkedIn in the professional world over the last couple of years. We know that it is the world’s largest professional networking site with over 200 million users in 200 countries. However, there are still companies out there who don’t place any emphasis on their company page, and the end result is a poor outlook to millions of professionals. Yikes.
But have no fear — below I have listed 7 quick tips that will enhance your company’s LinkedIn page in a timely fashion.
How to Optimize Your Company’s LinkedIn Profile: 7 Tips
1) Company Description
Stop copying and pasting the “About Us” section from your company’s website onto the description section of your LinkedIn page. Having a long description is not optimal for networking. In fact, it actually decreases your LinkedIn search visibility.
Instead, create a brief description that highlights what your company does and be sure to include important keywords. This should be done in a couple of sentences. Although the company description now appears at the bottom of your company’s page it is still important to have a short and informative description.
2) Add Company Specialties
When editing your company’s description you can add company specialities right below. In this box you should add the keywords of your company. The company specialties box is often an overlooked portion of a company’s profile, but it is extremely important. Having the correct keywords heightens your visibility and creates a more popular page. Here is what OpenView’s specialties include:
3) Get Visual
As LinkedIn has grown it has become much more visual. A cover photo is now 646 x 200 and the standard logo is now 60 x 60. Make sure your cover photo is captivating and that it truly exemplifies your company since this is the first thing users see when arriving to your page. Also, it doesn’t hurt to add videos to your page, especially to your Products & Services section.
Here is an example of how HubSpot has utilized the cover photo to promote their Inbound Conference.
4) Get Recommendations
On the Products & Services section of your page it is imperative to have recommendations from your network. With the new look of LinkedIn, recommendations are now highlighted even more prominently. The box is now highly visible on the right side of the Products & Services page, drawing more eyes.
You must have your connections recommend your products — it verifies your work and makes your company look phenomenal on LinkedIn.
5) Target Your Audience
You can now segment your posts on LinkedIn to different groups of people — a great tool that is used to target the right audience with the most appropriate posts.
For instance, if you wanted to send an update to only people in the marketing industry, you can just select the option and your post will only send to people in the marketing industry. Segmenting your LinkedIn updates is an overlooked strategy that optimizes your messaging, creating higher engagement.
6) Career Listing
Utilize this part of your page! Posting jobs is a highly effective way to increase your company’s visibility. You may also find the perfect candidate.
7) Create a Group
Why not create a group? Invite connections, start a conversation, and become a thought leader in your industry. You may be surprised to see how fast your group will grow. That being said, you must contribute regularly with informative content about your industry. Using polls within your post is a great tactic to gain engagement right off the bat.
