4 Ideas to Heat Up Your Recruiting Efforts in March (Even if It’s Still Cold Outside)

March 5, 2014

It’s the last month in the quarter — how are your Q1 hiring plans holding up? The polar vortex may be making things frigid outside your window, but that’s no reason for your recruiting efforts to cool down or freeze up. Here are four ideas to light a fire under your recruiting and close the quarter with a heat wave! (Okay, I’m done with the puns).

4 Ideas to Crank Your Recruiting Efforts Up a Notch

1) Host a Recruiting Open House

OpenView’s Director of Talent Diana Martz has written about hosting a recruiting open house before. It can be a great way to create buzz around your company and get your team interacting with others in the industry. Socrata, one of OpenView’s portfolio companies in Seattle, hosted a successful open house this past September.

2) Hold a Recruiting Surge

Back in November, I wrote about recruiting surges and the value they can add to your recruiting efforts. By providing additional incentives for referrals, you can create a more competitive referral program and get a stronger flow of more qualified referrals.
Its first recruiting surge was so successful that Monetate, another OpenView portfolio company, successfully completed its second recruiting surge in Q4 2014.

3) Attend a Spring Career Fair

Have entry-level roles to fill? May is just around the corner and there are many qualified 2014 grads that are eagerly looking for a full-time job for the summer.
A few weeks ago I wrote about how to make the most of attending upcoming career fairs, and I’ve previously shared my tips for attending career fairs, as well.

4) Implement an Internship Program

Internship programs are a great way to test out and groom talent for entry-level openings. Offering positions to rising seniors following a summer position can also ensure you land top talent before your competition does, and that you start filling Q2 openings nine months ahead of time.
Check out my previous blog series for actionable tips on how to get your own internship program up and running.
