The World Collaborates in South Africa

The power of collaboration illustrated in the upcoming World Cup

As I have mentioned in previous posts, I am currently working with Central Desktop, a LA-based company offering a web-based collaboration software platform. The solution helps management teams of various sizes streamline content sharing and communication both internally as well as externally. Central Desktop is one of OpenView Venture Partner’s expansion stage portfolio companies. That being said, I thought that the following would be a timely insight into the world of collaboration.

Tomorrow, the 2010 World Cup kicks off in South Africa. Arguably one of the greatest worldwide collaborations, the World Cup has the magnetic power to pull entire countries together for hours at a time. Nike’s new Write the Future commercial, regarded by many in the business as one of the best examples of influence Marketing, is three minutes long and features international soccer stars Wayne Rooney and Christiano Ronaldo, as well as appearances by Kobe Bryant and Roger Federer. According to the web analytics company Visible Measures, the ad set a viral record with almost 7.8 million views in its first week. It seems to me like a pre-game warm-up — a visual alternative to the traditional “Eye of the Tiger” being broadcast across 32 countries. Talk about an adrenaline rush…

Will you be watching as USA takes on England this Saturday?
