Following a recent Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) meeting, the issue of hiring discrimination is under an intense spotlight at many companies across the country.
But how do you know if you should be worried? First, understand that no new regulations were passed. Instead, a more intense initiative was created to prevent hiring discrimination, writes attorney Eric B. Meyer. The move was prompted by a perceived continuation of hiring inequity, which is something that the EEOC has been combating for years. To help, Meyer outlines some ideas to keep your hiring practices equitable:
- Make sure you’re recruiting and hiring with EEOC’s principles in mind. Don’t lose track of the specific regulations.
- If you decide to use an outside agency to do your hiring, make sure they don’t discriminate in any way.
