Reeling in Team Members that are Adrift

November 2, 2010

Little value is ever realized from the team member that sits disinterestedly mum during meetings.

In fact, they may be causing harm to the flow and productivity of the meeting. Their lack of involvement is setting a poor example and should be addressed. But how is this issue best approached? Through tactical check-ins that are intended to engage the apathetic team member and get them contributing.

By increasing your team member’s involvement voluntarily, you will be progressing their individual employee development. Regardless of which department they’re from, they were hired for a purpose and have valuable input to add. Soon, your check-ins will become more effective, as the team member starts to open up. And eventually, he or she should speak up unprompted.

Bringing otherwise uncommunicative team members into the fold will immediately improve the quality of team meetings. Watch the full video for more information on this topic.
