Lack of Trust is the Biggest Barrier to Progress

December 30, 2011

One of our portfolio company senior execs called me up the other day. He was looking for advice on how to handle a situation with one of his senior managers. Turns out that the manager was resisting a new process that the exec was looking to implement within their department. As the exec described the situation and how it manifested itself over time, it became clear to me that the issue may be one of trust.

Whenever I see colleagues within an organization who cannot get to a consensus on how to approach a business problem, I tend to see the lack of trust as the primary issue.

I developed this point of view after reading Steven Covey’s Speed of Trust.

I could go on and on, but all I’d be doing is plagiarizing Steven’s work. I suggest you go to the source instead of wasting time on this blog. If you Google Speed of Trust, you will also find a handy summary of the book.

The Chief Executive Officer

Firas was previously a venture capitalist at Openview. He has returned to his operational roots and now works as The Chief Executive Officer of Everteam and is also the Founder of nsquared advisory. Previously, he helped launch a VC fund, start and grow a successful software company and also served time as an obscenely expensive consultant, where he helped multi-billion-dollar companies get their operations back on track.
