Finding the most competitive resource in tech recruiting — good software developers — just got a whole lot easier.
It’s all thanks to Gild, a seed stage company that, despite just getting rolling, has already won some hefty ringing endorsements — its customers include Facebook, Box, Akamai, RedHat and Constant Contact, writes Arik Hesseldahl for AllThingsD.
Gild manages to take a lot of the uncertainty out of the notoriously difficult process of software hiring by tracking “the code that developers make public on services like GitHub and Google Code, how that person’s code is accepted for open source projects, and how often other developers borrow from their code or ‘fork’ it,” Hesseldahl writes. It then assigns each developer a score, not unlike Klout does for online influencers.
And the service doesn’t stop there — it also connects all the developer’s various social network connections, such as his or her LinkedIn profile and Twitter feed. Is this another peek into the future of tech recruiting? Some major players appear to think so. In addition to its powerhouse early adopters, Hesseldahl reports that “Gild has hired Brad Warga, VP of recruiting at Salesforce.com. Warga’s new title will be senior VP of customer experience.”
