Klout – Another Twitter Tool You Should Know About for an Influencer Program

March 12, 2010

A few months ago, I wrote a blog post about Edelman’s TweetLevel, a tool to measure your influence on Twitter. Here is more about one tool you may want to investigate to beef up your influence marketing strategy: Klout.

Klout boasts that it “measures influence across the social web to find what people in the world listen to.”

Users are able to search virtually every Twitterer to get a numerical score of influence and use that information to improve their content marketing strategy and influence marketing strategy. In addition to a numerical score, Klout provides some insight around top content and overall level of influence.

Klout also allows users to search by topic or list. You may be able to identify new influencers with this search capability. You may use the Klout score to determine whom to engage with first. For example, enter in “inbound marketing” and you find that @LevelTen_Colin and twitter.com/DougH are two people interested in inbound marketing. These two gentlemen may be prime targets for an influencer program that is geared towards inbound marketing because they have fairly high Klout scores.

Keep in mind that Klout shouldn’t be your only method to identifying your influencers. For more tips building your influencer database, check out this blog post I wrote late last year.
