10 Sectors that Entrepreneurs Should Be Targeting in 2012

December 6, 2011

If there’s an upside to the United States’ still gloomy economic outlook, it’s the growing popularity of entrepreneurship and the volume of people willing to be risk takers and self-made success stories.

Need proof? A recent article on Entrepreneur.com says that the Kauffman Foundation reported that 556,000 new businesses were started in 2010 — the most in 15 years. One big reason for that uptick, argues one expert in the article, is that running a startup or expansion stage company has actually become sexy and practical.

Those new business numbers aren’t likely to decrease in 2012 and there are 10 industries and markets trending up that Entrepreneur.com believes crafty business owners can get in on if they act fast.

So, where do the biggest opportunities lie?

Here are a few of the sectors Entrepreneur thinks will be big in 2012 and some examples of companies that currently occupy them:

  • Decision: Spotify, Hunch
  • Collaborative commerce: Getaround, Grubwithus
  • True mobility: Square, Salesforce
  • Jobs: BranchOut, ZipRecruiter
